The Centre for Science, Society and Citizenship seeks applicants for Research Assistant on ethics and governance of emerging technologies. The successful candidate will be eligible for a short trial period, after which she/he will be offered a three year contract as a Research Assistant, Junior or Senior, depending on his/her qualifications, and expertise.
Duties include:
- carrying out desk research on socio-psychological and ethical literature,
- carrying out empirical research on socio-psychological impact of technologies;
- writing scientific reports, guidelines, policy briefing;
- writing technical reports for the European Commission;
- presenting papers in scientific meetings, participating in conferences;
- preparing grant application;
- editing books and writing scientific papers.
We are seeking individuals:
1) (senior) with academic excellence and demonstrated experience and competencies for working in EC funded research projects, and for providing high quality research on ethics and governance of emerging technologies, notably, surveillance technologies, identification technologies included biometrics, eHealth technologies, assistive technologies for elderly people; some experience in EC grant writing would be a plus;
2) (junior) with a background in an area of study related to science and society, such as one of the social sciences, humanities, philosophy, cultural studies, law. Basic literacy in western civilization and philosophy (ethics) is mandatory. Prior experience, or training in empirical research, notably, in qualitative research, would be a plus.
Perfect written and oral communication skills in English (ONLY English mother tongue or bilingual) are mandatory. Travel and periodic stay abroad (within Europe) are requested. Only EU residents are eligible.
Successful candidates will be supervised by the Director of CSSC, and will work collaboratively with CSSC staff members. Successful candidate will also have opportunities to pursue academic interests including publication. Starting salary is dependent on qualifications and experience. As experience and responsibility grow, salary will follow.
